Founded in 2024 by Bob Sherman, Synergy Engineering and Design provides mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering services throughout New England. With offices in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts and nearly 50 years of combined experience, our team delivers thoughtful, high-quality designs backed by a collaborative and hands-on approach.
At Synergy, every project is led directly by a firm principal from start to finish. By staying selective with the work we take on, we’re able to remain responsive, detail-oriented, and fully invested in our clients’ success.
Our name reflects what we believe: the best results happen when people work together. Through strong partnerships, mentorship, and a commitment to our local communities, we strive to improve the built environment while building lasting relationships along the way.

Comprehensive mechanical system design for commercial, residential, and industrial buildings, from heating and cooling to ventilation and energy recovery.

Building electrical system design from power distribution and lighting to life safety and specialized electrical systems.

Complete plumbing system design, including domestic water, sanitary, stormwater, and specialized building systems.
Our multidisciplinary MEP approach allows us to coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems from concept through construction.

Robert Sherman, PE
Our Managing Member and Founder, Bob started Synergy Engineering and Design in 2024 with a simple idea: there’s a better way to do engineering.
Bob is a New England native with nearly 40 years of engineering and project management experience. He is a UMass Graduate with a wide range of projects across the region. He has a reputation for being hands-on, practical, and deeply committed to quality design.
He stays directly involved in every project Synergy takes on, making sure clients always have clear communication and consistent leadership from start to finish.
Outside of work, Bob enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, and staying active in the local community. Bob can be found at his camp or playing a board game with his sons.
Samantha Michalenko
Our Lead Mechanical Designer, Sam, has been with Synergy Engineering and Design since day one. She grew up in Massachusetts and got her start in Computer-Assisted Drafting at a technical high school, working with local drafting firms while in school.
She went on to earn her Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering Technology from Vermont Technical College in 2020, while gaining hands-on experience through internships with a local AE firm. From there, she jumped right into the MEP world as a Mechanical Designer and hasn’t looked back.
Outside of work, Sam is usually outside with her husband and their beagle, Winnie — especially if there’s snow involved. Make sure you ask her about snowmobiling.
